FOCUSING ON THE UNDERPRIVILEGED
The annual Down East Youth and Adult Bass Fishing Tournament (DEYABFT) is a family oriented charity event that teaches the joys of fishing to youth and adults. It is a full day of fishing that includes instructions about fishing from professional and avid Bass fishermen who donate their time, their boats, rods, reels and other equipment necessary for a bass fishing competition.
All funds that are raised go to the youth at Williford Resource Center. This affords them an opportunity to have book bags, school supplies, nourishment or food for themselves and their families. We also used this opportunity to mentor the youth, teach them better ways to communicate and encourage them to do better in school.
The Down East Youth and Adult Bass Fishing Tournament was born from a chance conversation between Rodney Birth and Geno McCree who has an extreme love for fishing and a desire to give back to their community. Rodney and Geno conversation then transpired to fishing and the need to bring additional opportunities to the youth of today. DEYABFT brings the sport of bass fishing to youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the joy of competitive fishing from a boat. The Down East Youth and Adult Bass Fishing Tournament is a non-profit organization.
The mission of Down East Youth and Adult Bass Fishing Tournament have been to expose youth to a non-traditional sport which teaches skills such as hand-eye coordination, patience, and communication as well as provide mentoring and the opportunity to interact with adult participants from all walks of life.
